Look, Monster Rancher ain't gonna be the same as Pokémon - but it answers your desire of difficulty (unless you're ABSOLUTELY addicted to pure stats - then it's only moderately satisfying in comparison), does it not? If not, there are plenty of other creators out there making their own works - hoping for just a fraction of a chance that these fan games get. The games made by the creator are theirs (we're just paying for the ride), and they're not deaf to fan desires (they don't have to do as they say just to show they hear them) - if they wanted to improve them for the fans' wishes, they would. So what about those who want a harder Pokémon? Who want a sequel to Earthbound? A better Metroid? Doing otherwise would be an unfair comparison for the BOTH of them.Ī fan game, to me, is less of an enjoyable homage (fanart/fanfic) as it is a replacement for what we want. If the spouse doesn't want to step it up on their own, that's their choice. If the person has their own thing, let them show it. To me, that's like enjoying a date with a person who copied everything about your spouse (but better) more than a date with your spouse. It's more fun just to blaze through the game or do a Nuzlocke.
I don't recommend this mod unless you're a masochist. When you're end game, hacks like these make sense, but the restrictions in the moves *YOU* can have early on hinder the experience, because you'll be using moves with attack powers of 30-60 and they'll be using move that raises their stats by 2 stages and just one shot you, and any kind of status move you tend to get at this time through leveling, usually is something like growl, or tail whip. If you're looking for a legitimate difficult Pokemon hack or game, this doesn't do it in a way that feels fair for most of the game. It's a tedious cycle that goes on up until the 5th gym badge. You will lose and lose, and lose until you level up, past the higher than normal trainers, to the point where you simply over power them, not out-smart them. So you're sitting there with moves from the start of the game, trying to beat teams with moves that are *end game* moves that are made to be competitive.
Obviously, on paper this makes it sound like it's what it advertises, however often these teams show up in the early game. My biggest issue with hacks like these, is they use Smogon (or competitive) teams in a lot of battles. Trainers throughout the game have access to Mega Evolution!Īlternate Battle Types are more common in the world!Īs someone who has played many Pokemon hacks to make for a harder experience, I can tell you that this one fails, much like the others.
